Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about the Spaces That Matter label — the process, the dimensions, the criteria and confidentiality.

Understanding the label

What is Spaces That Matter?

Spaces That Matter is the first label that measures the human performance of workspaces across 8 key dimensions — from individual well-being to collective vitality, including culture, governance and openness to the outside. Built with the Fabrique Spinoza, it draws on more than 200 scientific references from neuroscience, environmental psychology and behavioral design.

It concretely assesses how your offices influence concentration, collaboration, engagement and the quality of interactions.

How does it differ from certifications such as HQE, WELL or BREEAM?

Certifications such as HQE, WELL and BREEAM mainly assess the technical and environmental quality of buildings: energy, materials, air quality, light… using sensors and technical audits.

Spaces That Matter works at a different level: it assesses the real impact of workspaces on human behavior — concentration, collaboration, engagement, quality of interactions, sense of belonging. These dimensions are invisible to sensors, but not to the people who experience the space every day.

These approaches are complementary: environmental certifications answer “What building do we have?”; Spaces That Matter answers “What does this space do to our teams?”.

Is Spaces That Matter comparable to Great Place to Work or Top Employers?

Not quite — these certifications do not measure the same thing, even though they share the same conviction: people are at the heart of organizational performance.

Great Place to Work, Top Employers and Happy Index At Work assess quality of working life as a whole: management, company culture, HR policies, sense of belonging… Their scope covers the entire employee experience, regardless of the workplace.

Spaces That Matter focuses on a more specific question: does the workspace itself contribute to the well-being and engagement of teams? The two approaches are therefore complementary. A Great Place to Work certified company can use STM to check that its spaces live up to its ambitions.

Why is it strategic today?

Because spaces have become a major performance lever. In a context of hybrid work and disengagement, they shape:

  • the quality of the team as a whole
  • the desire to come to the office
  • the ability to collaborate effectively

ROI & business value

What is the ROI of the label?

STM turns your spaces into a measurable performance lever. In practice, it helps to:

  • improve team engagement
  • streamline collaboration
  • strengthen employer attractiveness
  • optimize your real estate investments
What is the label actually used for?

The label enables you to:

  • objectively assess the real quality of your spaces
  • identify hidden pain points
  • prioritize your actions
  • steer your transformations

It is a decision-making tool, not just a diagnosis.

Methodology & credibility

How does the assessment work?

A 15-minute questionnaire is sent to your employees. The responses are analyzed across 8 key dimensions — from individual well-being to collective vitality, including culture, governance and openness to the outside — to produce an overall and detailed score.

Are the results reliable?

Yes. The methodology is based on scientific references and a statistical analysis of the responses. A minimum participation threshold guarantees the robustness of the results.

Can the results be manipulated?

No. The data is anonymized and analyzed in aggregate. The scoring is supervised to guarantee an objective assessment.

Implementation

Who can apply for the Spaces That Matter label?

Any organization with workspaces and at least 50 employees can apply. The label is aimed at small and mid-sized businesses and large corporations alike, in every sector. A minimum 50% response rate is required to guarantee the statistical significance of the results — our teams help you adapt the approach to your context.

How long does it take?

Once the process is approved, allow 2 to 4 weeks for internal roll-out. Answering the questionnaire takes about 15 minutes. You will then receive your results and your label within 2 to 4 weeks.

In total, the process can be completed in 1 month!

Does it require a lot of internal resources?

No. Roll-out is simple and quick. Our teams support you every step of the way.

Who leads the project internally?

The label can be led by HR, real estate departments or senior management. We help you structure the process.

Results & taking action

What happens after the assessment?

You receive a detailed report with your strengths and areas for improvement. You can then prioritize your build-out or organizational actions.

What if we are not awarded the label?

You get a clear, actionable diagnosis. It is often the starting point for an effective transformation.

Can progress be tracked over time?

Yes. The label is valid for 2 years and lets you measure your progress over time.

Use cases

When should STM be used?

The label is particularly useful:

  • to assess and promote the quality of your workspaces
  • to objectively ground a workplace strategy
  • when moving or refurbishing
  • when engagement or office attendance is declining
  • to optimize a flex office
Do we need to have already refurbished our offices?

No. STM is precisely what lets you identify priorities before investing.

Does the label work for all types of spaces?

Yes. Offices, headquarters, multi-site organizations… The assessment adapts to your context.
